This second week proved to be a lot more challenging than last week by far. At first, we weren't able to interview any of the teachers that we planned on interviewing at first. Luckily, Mr. Barker said we could interview him and we all thought that was a good idea seeing as he could provide us some insight on our interview questions and how to improve through the weeks. We sat down with him during our Genius Hour time in class and did our interview. Ethan and Ty asked the questions while Cam videoed the interview. At the end of the interview, we asked what he thinks we could do better for our future interviews. He said he would recommend someone writing down notes as the interview goes on so we don't have to look back over our video and write notes based on that. We haven't been able to do our first podcast just yet because of uneven schedules and Cam has been sick. We plan on doing it very soon but because of this setback, we may have to cut down how many podcasts we do record and upload. In the upcoming weeks we plan to have better time management and to try and schedule our interviews in advance.
Updated on 11/3/21: The idea of cutting down on the number of podcasts has been becoming a more prevalent option in the past few weeks. Ethan and Cam are currently doing basketball tryouts and then basketball season will start soon so they will become less available as time goes on. This will be one of our biggest challenges going forward as it will be a lot tougher to have our schedules line up. Another thing that we have updated since this blog post has been the way that we interview. We found it a lot easier to just set one of our phones on the table where we are interviewing so Cam doesn't get tired while holding the phone and it also works just as well as if we were to record it normally.

For our first week, we had finally came up with what we wanted to do for sure after we debated with each other for a long time about it. The first thing we did was decide which teachers we wanted to interview so we compiled that list together. We narrowed it down to 10 different teachers that we thought would be willing to do this interview for us. We then made a email template to send to these teachers, some of the emails have not been sent though so we still need to do that. We then looked up a simple YouTube video on how to start a podcast and we watched that. Luckily, Ty's mom already had a microphone that she said we could use for our podcast. The next step was to find a website to help us upload our podcast to all platforms. We made an account on a website called Buzz Sprout to help us do this. The last thing we did was download an editing software so we downloaded a software called Audacity. This is all that we did during week 1 and we plan to interview our first teacher during week 2 and record that podcast. Updated on 11/10/21: So far are now entering our 8th week of Genius Hour. Our schedules are now becoming our biggest obstacles. But we plan to work through this by meeting later in the evening or on the weekends. Although we have quite a bit done, there is still a lot of classes and departments of Davie that we are yet to explore. Since the first week we have changed how we interview the teachers. We now take notes on what they say and film the whole interview. This is so we have a reference when doing the podcast together. I think the best way to help accomplish our goal now is by staying on a constant schedule of what we need to get done each week. To help make sure that we not only get in a good amount of podcast but also so everything we do is organized and we know when we need to get together outside of school. |
